RBI Appoints Monisha Chakraborty as Executive Director from August 3

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Monisha Chakraborty as its Executive Director (ED), effective from August 3, 2026. Monisha Chakraborty is a experienced central banker and she has more than thirty years of the experience in the banking sector. Prior to this appointment, Monisha Chakraborty served as the Chief General Manager-in-Charge of the Department of Supervision. The new responsibilities of Monisha Chakraborty in the new position include looking after activities regarding the Foreign Exchange Department and Financial Markets Regulation Department.

RBI Announces Appointment of Monisha Chakraborty

The Reserve Bank of India has made an announcement regarding the appointment of Monisha Chakraborty as Executive Director on 3 August 2026.

Prior to her promotion, she was the Chief General Manager and in charge of the Department of Supervision, and played a significant role in the supervision of banks and compliance with regulations.

Her appointment mirrors the RBI’s focus on enhancing leadership in matters of financial regulation in the financial markets and management of foreign funds.

By spending over three decades in the Reserve Bank of India, Monisha Chakraborty is an accomplished banker in her own right.
