Krishna Janmashtami: Janamshatmi festival is one of the main festivals in Hindu religion. This festivals holds a great religious significance among devotees. This festival is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. This is the 5250th birth anniversary of Vasudeva Krishna. The festival of Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated across the globe by Lord Krishna devotees. Beloved Lord Krishna was born on Ashtami Tithi (eighth day) of Krishna Paksha (Waning Moon) in the month of Bhadrapada. This year, Janmashatmi is being celebrated today i.e., September 6, 2023 or September 7.

Who is Lord Krishna?

Krishna is not just a God, he is the soul in every human being. He is the one who came to rescue Draupadi when she just prayed him to save her from Cheer Charan. He forgive the enemies many times as he forgave Shishupaal but once he crossed the limits, Lord Krishna killed him with his Sudarshan Chakra. He is the one who took birth to destroy Adharma and established Dharma or religion. Lord Krishna even became a charioteer of Arjun and gave Geeta gyan and encouraged him to win the battle of Kurukshetra. The one who worship him with great devotion, he always be with them in every phase of life and never let them face difficulties alone.

Janmashtami: Puja Vidhi

1. Wake up early in the morning and take a holy bath and take a sankalp of observing strict fast with devotion.
2. Clean the house and puja room before starting puja rituals.
3. Take Laddoo Gopal Ji and give him a bath with plain water, gangajal and then with panchamrit (milk, curd, honey, ghee and sugar powder).
4. Then adorn him with new beautiful dress, Mukut, set the Mor Pankh and flute.
5. Put yellow chandan tilak.
6. Devotees must take a wooden plank and place a cotton yellow colour cloth and decorate that with flower garland. 7. Place Laddoo Gopal ji on that and offer him Tulsi Patra, Panchamrit, sweets and five different types of fruits
8. Chant “Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaye” and make him happy whole day.
9. During midnight, whole country will celebrate Lord Krishna’s birthday and chant “Aarti Kunj Bihari Ki”
10. Then people will offer him the bhog prasad of different types of fruits mixed with dry dhaniya powder and Panchamrit and Makhana kheer.
11. After offering prayers, devotees can break their fast and have fruits, and bhog prasad but actually the fast will be broken on the next day.

Janmashtami holds a great significance among Hindus. This festival is celebrated with great pomp and show across the globe by Krishna devotees. On this auspicious day Lord Karishna, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu was born. He was the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. His biological mother father was Devki and Vasudeva but he was raised by Yashoda Maiya and Nand Baba. People observe strict fast and offer prayers to Lord Krishna and his childhood form or Baal roop of Karishna (Laddoo Gopal Ji). Devotees are so excited for his birthday celebration. All temples are decorated with colourful lights and flowers. Preparing various types of sweets and bhog prasad. Devotees are purchasing beautiful dressess and jewellery for their beloved Kanha.

Janmashtami festival is celebrated with great fervor and zeal. On this auspicious day, a large number of devotees visit the most famous place Mathura, Vrindavan and Gokul where Lord Krishna had spent his childhood and performed Raas Leela. Various temples dedicated to Lord Krishna situated here such as Banke Bihari temple, Radha Raman temple, Govind Dev, Radha Vallabh and many other. All the streets of these places are decorated by using different types of flowers, chandeliers and colourful.
