Lala Kedarnath Aggarwal, Founder and Chairman of Bikanervala, Passes Away at 86
Lala Kedarnath Aggarwal, the visionary entrepreneur and founder of the renowned sweets and snacks brand Bikanervala, breathed his last at the age of 86. His journey from a humble street vendor to the chairman of a successful business empire is a testament to his indomitable spirit and dedication.
Hailing from Bikaner, a city with a rich culinary heritage, Aggarwal’s family owned a modest sweet shop named Bikaner Namkeen Bhandar since 1905. The shop, nestled in the bylanes of the city, offered a limited array of sweets and snacks.
Fuelled by aspirations beyond the confines of his hometown, Kedarnath Aggarwal, accompanied by his brother Satyanarayan Aggarwal, ventured to Delhi in the early 1950s. Armed with the treasured family recipes, they embarked on a journey that would redefine the landscape of traditional Indian sweets and snacks.
The initial days were a struggle, with the Aggarwal brothers peddling buckets filled with bhujia and rasgullas on the bustling streets of old Delhi. However, their relentless hard work and the distinctive flavors of Bikaner soon captivated the taste buds of the city’s residents, marking the beginning of a culinary revolution.
Determined to expand their horizons, the Aggarwal brothers set up a brick-and-mortar shop in Delhi’s iconic Chandini Chowk. Here, they meticulously crafted their offerings using time-honored family recipes passed down through generations. The shop, initially known as Bikaner Namkeen Bhandar, rapidly gained popularity for its exquisite Moong Dal Halwa, Bikaneri Bhujia, Kaju Katli, and a myriad of other delicacies.
Bikaner Namkeen Bhandar soon underwent a transformation, emerging as the widely recognized and beloved brand, Bikanervala. The Aggarwal brothers’ dedication to preserving and sharing their culinary heritage earned them not only success but also the hearts of countless patrons.
As we bid farewell to Lala Kedarnath Aggarwal, his legacy lives on in the taste and tradition that Bikanervala represents. His journey from the streets of old Delhi to the helm of a culinary empire is a source of inspiration for aspiring entrepreneurs and a celebration of the rich tapestry of Indian entrepreneurship.
The passing of this culinary maestro leaves a void in the industry, but the flavors he introduced to the world will forever linger on the palates of those who have savored the delights of Bikanervala.
