Lando Norris Wins Rainy British Grand Prix

Lando Norris won the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on July 6, 2025, in a dramatic and rainy race. This was a special win for Norris, who grew up dreaming of winning at his home track. His victory also helped him close the gap in the championship race against his teammate Oscar Piastri.

A Dream Come True at Silverstone

British driver Lando Norris, racing for McLaren, won the 2025 British Grand Prix at Silverstone in front of cheering home fans. The race was held in wet weather, making it tough for drivers to stay on track. Norris had watched his hero Lewis Hamilton win this race in 2008 as a child and said this moment was something he had dreamed of for years.

Norris started third on the grid, moved ahead of Max Verstappen, and later took the lead when Oscar Piastri received a 10-second penalty. Norris said over the team radio, “This is a dream, winning at home. Thanks for the memory.”

Controversy Over Piastri’s Penalty

Oscar Piastri, Norris’s teammate and title rival, finished second. He had been leading the race but was penalized for braking too sharply during a safety car restart, which forced Verstappen behind him to take sudden action. Piastri believed the penalty was unfair and suggested McLaren could let him retake the lead, but the team did not agree.

Norris stayed close behind Piastri until the Australian served his penalty during a pit stop, which allowed Norris to take the lead. With this result, Norris reduced Piastri’s lead in the championship from 15 points to 8, with 12 races left in the season.

Other Big Moments in the Race

The race had many spins and crashes. Nico Hülkenberg of Sauber finished third after starting in 19th place, earning his first podium finish in 239 races. It was also Sauber’s first podium since 2012.

Max Verstappen, who started from pole position, spun during the restart and ended up finishing fifth. He remains third in the title race but is now 69 points behind Piastri, hurting his chances of winning the championship again.

Several rookies had a tough day. Isack Hadjar crashed after hitting Kimi Antonelli, and both retired. Gabriel Bortoleto, Liam Lawson, and Franco Colapinto also did not finish. Only Oliver Bearman completed the race in 11th place, even after crashing into his teammate Esteban Ocon.
