Laksar Junction was established in 1866 when the Awadh-Rohilkhand Railway line was extended to Saharanpur. In 1886, it was connected to Haridwar through a branch line. Later, in 1900, the line was extended to Dehradun, improving the connectivity of the region.

The station is located at the junction point of Dehradun, Saharanpur and Moradabad. It serves as an interchange station for trains coming from various direction, making it a key stop for travelers heading to popular destinations like Haridwar, Rishikesh and Dehradun.
