Cabinet Ministers of India 2024, On June 10th, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has allocated ministerial portfolios to the 71 members of his Council of Ministers. The comprehensive list was unveiled after the inaugural meeting of the new Union Cabinet, which convened at the Prime Minister’s official residence. Barring a few exceptions, prominent leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will retain their previous roles under the Modi 3.0 administration. Veteran BJP stalwarts Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman, and S. Jaishankar will continue to helm the crucial ministries of Home Affairs, Defense, Finance, and External Affairs, respectively.

BJP’s Electoral Performance

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the single largest party in the 18th Lok Sabha, securing 240 seats. This marks a significant decrease from their previous tallies of 303 seats in 2019 and 282 seats in 2014. However, the party’s performance has been sufficient to form the government at the center. The Indian National Congress, the principal opposition party, managed to secure 99 seats.

Composition of the New Council of Ministers

As per the Constitution of India, the total strength of the council of ministers cannot exceed 15% of the total number of Lok Sabha MPs. With the current Lok Sabha having 543 members, the council of ministers cannot have more than 81 members.

In the current Modi government, out of the 72 ministers, including the Prime Minister, there are 30 Cabinet Ministers, 5 Ministers with Independent Charge, and 36 Ministers of State.
