Lt Gen Pushpendra Pal Singh to Become Western Command GOC in C
The Indian Army has appointed the Lt Gen Pushpendra Pal Singh as the next General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of Western Command. He will assume the position at Chandimandir headquarters at the end of the month following the retirement of Lt Gen M K Katiyar. He is Currently serving as the Vice Chief of Army Staff (VCOAS) since July 31 2025. Lt Gen Pushpendra Pal Singh brings extensive operational and leadership experience.
Lt Gen Pushpendra Pal Singh began his military journey when he was the commissioned into the 4th Battalion of the Parachute Regiment on December 19 1987. The Parachute Regiment is one of the Indian Army’s elite infantry units. And it is known for specialized and high risk operations.
Throughout his long military career he has held diverse command, staff, and instructional roles. His leadership assignments have involved operational planning, strategic management and field commands.
During his service the Lt Gen Pushpendra Pal Singh participated in several major military operations that played important roles in India’s defense and security. His experience includes operations across different terrains and strategic theatres.
Key operations in which he has served include,
Operation Pawan – Indian Peace Keeping Force mission in Sri Lanka
Operation Meghdoot – deployment in the Siachen Glacier region
Operation Rakshak – counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir
Operation Orchid – military operations in the Northeast region
Before his appointment as the Western Command GOC-in-C, Lt Gen Pushpendra Pal Singh held several key leadership positions within the Indian Army. These assignments help to strengthen his operational and administrative experience.
He commanded a Special Forces unit in the Kashmir Valley and along the Line of Control (LoC). He also led an Infantry Brigade and a Mountain Division along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). He also demonstrating experience in high-altitude and sensitive border regions.
The Western Command of the Indian Army the headquartered at Chandimandir in Haryana is one of the most important operational commands of the Indian military. It is responsible for overseeing security and military readiness along the western borders of India.
The command plays a crucial role in managing defence operations, troop deployments and strategic preparedness in regions bordering Pakistan.
