Mamata Banerjee launches ‘Yogyasree’ for SC/ST students in West Bengal

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has recently introduced a comprehensive social welfare scheme named “Yogyasree.” The initiative aims to provide free training modules for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) students in West Bengal, specifically targeting entrance and competitive examinations. This move comes ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, reflecting the government’s commitment to educational empowerment.

Yogyasree Scheme: Bridging Educational Gaps

The Yogyasree scheme encompasses the establishment of fifty training centres across the state. These centres will offer cost-free training for SC and ST students, focusing on competitive examinations. Additionally, 46 centres will provide similar opportunities for those aspiring to secure government jobs and pursue careers in civil services.

Anti-Ragging Measures

In conjunction with the Yogyasree scheme, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has initiated an anti-ragging toll-free number for students. She emphasized the importance of displaying notifications in all colleges and universities to raise awareness about this helpline, ensuring a safer and more inclusive educational environment.

Student Internship Programme

As part of her commitment to enhancing educational opportunities, Mamata Banerjee has rolled out a student internship programme. This initiative will benefit 2500 students, providing them with valuable hands-on experience. The Chief Minister highlighted the significance of such practical exposure in shaping the future of the youth.

Educational Achievements in West Bengal

During the announcement, Mamata Banerjee proudly shared West Bengal’s achievements in the realm of education. She asserted that the state leads in primary education, and both Jadavpur and Calcutta University have secured top positions as the country’s two premier universities.

Existing Social Welfare Schemes

Banerjee also took the opportunity to discuss various ongoing social welfare schemes aimed at supporting students. Initiatives like Kanyasree, Sabujshree, and the Student’s Credit Card scheme were lauded for their positive impact on the educational landscape of West Bengal.
