MGNREGA: Rajasthan tops in persondays generation for 4th year

For the fourth year in a row, Rajasthan topped the country in terms of persondays generation under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. In 2022-23, Rajasthan generated 35.61 crore persondays at a total cost of Rs 10,175 crore under the scheme. Rajasthan is followed by Tamil Nadu (33.45 crore), Uttar Pradesh (31.18 crore), Andhra Pradesh (23.96 crore) and Bihar (23.69 crore) in terms of persondays generation, according to MGNREGA MIS report.

Rajasthan stood third in the country in terms of number of households completing 100 days of work. As many as 4,47,558 families completed 100 days of work under MGNREGA. Uttar Pradesh topped the country with 4,99,947 families completing 100 days of work, followed by Kerala with 4,48,913 families.

Rajasthan generated 42.42 crore person days under the scheme in 2021-22, 46.05 crore in 2020-21 and 32.86 crore in 2019-20. Meanwhile, the Rajasthan government has opposed the Centre’s proposal to allocate a reduced NREGA labour Budget of 20 crore for the financial year 2023-24. The state government has demanded a minimum labour budget of 37 crore for the financial year 2023-24, state’s rural development department secretary Manju Rajpal had earlier said. “The rural development ministry has approved only 20 crore labour budget for 2023-24. We have opposed it during the empowered committee’s meeting of the government of India. We’ve put our foot down and have told them that them that 20 crore was not sufficient for us and that the Centre was passing the labour budget only for 6 months.
