Military Exercise PRAGATI 2026 Kicks Off in Meghalaya with Forces from 12 Nations
India has launched the multilateral military exercise PRAGATI 2026 at the Umroi Military Station in Meghalaya. It will bring together the armed forces from 12 friendly nations for the major regional defense engagement. This two week exercise will focuson counter-terror operations, jungle warfare and tactical coordination in the challenging terrain.
The Indian Army has officially commenced the PRAGATI 2026, which is a major multinational military exercise at Meghalaya’s Umroi Military Station.
The exercise has brought together the troops from Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Seychelles, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
All the participating contingents received the traditional welcome from the Indian Army at the opening ceremony.
The military drill is also designed to strengthen the cooperation among regional armed forces and improve joint operational readiness.
The Exercise PRAGATI stands for the Partnership of Regional Armies for Growth and Transformation in the Indian Ocean Region.
It showcases the India’s strategic vision of the building strong defense partnerships and to ensuring the regional stability.
Key Objectives of the Exercise
Total 12 participating countries are,
India is hosting the exercise through the Indian Army.
The exercise is to be conducted at the Foreign Training Node in Umroi which is the key military training hub in Northeast India.
Strategic Significance
The selection of location also reflects the India’s focus to integrating the Northeast into the global strategic frameworks.
Via the initiatives like PRAGATI India is positioning itself as the key player in the Indo-Pacific security architecture.
