Miniratna Status Granted to MIL, AVNL & IOL: A New Milestone in India's Defence Sector
In a significant move towards strengthening India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has approved the grant of “Miniratna” Category-I status to three key Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) — Munitions India Limited (MIL), Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL), and India Optel Limited (IOL). This recognition acknowledges their rapid transformation into profit-making corporate entities within a short span of three years.
These three companies emerged following the corporatisation of the erstwhile Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) on October 1, 2021, when the Government of India restructured it into seven DPSUs to improve autonomy, efficiency, and innovation in defence production.
