Ministry Of Heavy Industries Partners With IIT Roorkee In Automotive And EV Sector

In a significant step towards promoting innovation and advancing the automotive and electric vehicle (EV) sector, the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) and the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The signing ceremony, graced by Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey, Minister of Heavy Industries, and Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, marks a crucial moment in leveraging academic expertise and industrial experience to shape the future of transportation.

Partnership for Innovation

  • The MoU signifies a collaboration aimed at fostering innovation in the automotive and electric vehicle (EV) sector.

Establishment of Centers

  • It involves the establishment of a Center of Excellence (CoE) and an Industry Accelerator at IIT Roorkee, demonstrating a joint commitment to advancing technology in transportation.

Financial Investment

  • MHI has allocated a grant of ₹19.8745 Cr. for research, development, and implementation, further supplemented by ₹4.78 Cr. from industry partners, highlighting a significant financial investment in transformative projects.

Promoting Self-Reliance

  • Initiatives under the MoU accelerate the adoption of advanced technologies, contributing to India’s self-reliance in manufacturing and enhancing global competitiveness in the automotive and EV sector.

Government Support

  • Approval of projects under the Capital Goods Scheme, particularly in Uttarakhand, reflects proactive governance and support for initiatives in the e-mobility sector.
