An animation, visual effects, gaming, and comics (AVGC) promotion task group has been established by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The task force, which will be led by the I&B Secretary, will produce its first action plan within 90 days. Industry, academics, and state governments are all represented.
KEY POINTS:
- In her Budget speech, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the formation of an AVGC promotion task team.
- The organisation will develop a national AVGC policy, recommend a national curriculum framework for graduation, post-graduate, and PhD courses in AVGC-related fields, and collaborate with academic institutions, vocational training centres, and industry to assist skilling programmes.
- It will increase job possibilities, assist in promotion and market development operations to expand Indian industry’s worldwide reach, increase exports, and recommend incentives to attract foreign direct investment in the sector.
- According to the I&B Ministry, the country’s AVGC industry has the potential to be the torchbearer of Create in India and Brand India.
INDIA’S AIM:
- India has the ability to take 5%, which is about $40 billion of global revenue.
- By 2025, India has the potential to acquire 5% (about $40 billion) of global market share, with annual growth of aroun 25-30% and the creation of around 1,60,000 new employment.
- Secretaries from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the Department of Higher Education, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and the Department for Industry and Internal Trade Promotion make up the task force.
Technicolor India’s Biren Ghosh, Punaryug Artvision’s Ashish Kulkarni, Anibrain’s Jesh Krishna Murthy, Redchillies VFX’s Keitan Yadav, Whistling Woods International’s Chaitanya Chinchlikar, Zynga India’s Kishore Kichili, and Hungama Digital Media Entertainment’s Neeraj Roy are among the industry representatives.
