The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports has recently unveiled the recipients of the prestigious ‘Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar‘ for the year 2023. These awards are a testament to the commendable contributions made by corporate entities, Sports Control Boards, NGOs, and sports bodies at the State and National levels towards the promotion and development of sports in India.
The distinguished awardees will be honored by the President of India in a grand ceremony scheduled to take place at Rashtrapati Bhavan on 9th January 2024. This special occasion will witness the recognition of entities that have played a visible role in fostering sports across various domains.
The application process for the ‘Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar’ involved online submissions. Sportspersons, coaches, and entities were given the opportunity to self-apply through a dedicated Online Portal. The extensive response to the call for applications in 2023 reflects the widespread enthusiasm and engagement in the field of sports promotion and development.
The selection committee, chaired by Smt. Sujata Chaturvedi, Secretary (Sports), Government of India, comprised members from previous awardees, industry associations, sports journalists, experts, commentators, Secretary (Sports) of State Government, Indian Olympic Association, and Non-Governmental Organizations actively involved in sports.
The ‘Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar’ is one of the six core awards that constitute India’s National Sports Awards. The other five include the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award (Khel Ratna), the Arjuna Award, the Dronacharya Award, the Major Dhyan Chand Award, and the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy, also known as the MAKA Trophy.
