Mirabai Chanu Wins Third Consecutive Commonwealth Games Gold
India’s star weightlifter Mirabai Chanu has won the gold medal in the women’s 48kg category at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Birmingham. Chanu lifted a total of 190kg to retain her title and emerged champion for the third time in the consecutive Commonwealth Games. With this win, India also got its first medal in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and thus raised the tally of medals for the country to three.
The 31-year-old athlete put in another calm performance in the women’s 48kg competition and also favourite to win the event.
It was Mirabai’s total lift of 190kg that saw her secure the gold ahead of her rivals.
Rishikanta Singh won silver on the same day and further established weightlifting as one of India’s strongest disciplines at the Commonwealth Games.
This win has taken India’s medal tally to three, strengthening the expectations of yet another successful campaign in the competition.
