India’s star weightlifter Mirabai Chanu has won the gold medal in the women’s 48kg category at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Birmingham. Chanu lifted a total of 190kg to retain her title and emerged champion for the third time in the consecutive Commonwealth Games. - Mirabai needed a weight of 105kg to clinch the gold medal but did not make it at her first attempt.
- However, she did not let that slow her down and successfully lifted 105kg at the second attempt to fullfill her goal of winning a gold medal.
Mirabai chose to take no further attempts after her victory was secured.
