Modi–Macron Launch India-France Year of Innovation to Boost Tech Collaboration
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron have launched the India-France Year of Innovation 2026 during Macron’s three-day visit to India from 17 to 19 February. The initiative aims to deepen cooperation in artificial intelligence, defense, digital technology, and the Indo-Pacific. The visit reflects strong strategic alignment between the two countries amid changing global geopolitics. Both leaders are expected to review progress in the India-France Strategic Partnership and expand collaboration across innovation and economic sectors.
Defense cooperation continues as a core pillar of the India-France relationship. India’s Defense Acquisitions Council has approved a proposal to procure 114 Rafale fighter aircraft.
The Rafale jets are manufactured by Dassault Aviation. Out of the 114 aircraft,
India already operates 36 Rafale jets in the Air Force and has ordered 26 naval variants. The expanded fleet will significantly enhance India’s air combat capability and boost defense industrial collaboration.
