Mohammad Shami became the first Indian bowler to pick two five-wicket hauls in ICC ODI World Cups. Shami picked the wickets of Will Young, Rachin Ravindra, Daryll Mitchell, Mitchell Santner and Matt Henry in India’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 clash against New Zealand. Shami ended up picking five wickets while giving away 54 runs in 10 overs. He is now the ninth bowler overall to take two fifers in ODI World Cups.

Anil Kumble’s Milestone: Mohammad Shami’s incredible performance extended beyond his five-wicket haul. He also surpassed the legendary spinner Anil Kumble’s tally of 31 wickets in ODI World Cups.

Third on the Indian Wicket-Takers’ List: Shami’s feat propelled him to the third position on the all-time Indian World Cup wicket-takers’ list. He now stands behind the fast bowling duo of Javagal Srinath and Zaheer Khan, both of whom have claimed 44 wickets apiece.
