Most Watermelon Producing State in India, Know the Name

Watermelon is one of the most popular summer fruits in India. It is juicy, sweet and helps keep the body cool during hot days. Many people enjoy eating watermelon because it is refreshing and full of water. In India, this fruit is grown in many states with warm climates and good soil. Among all these states, one produces the highest amount of freshwater every year.

Watermelon Production in India

In India, watermelon is grown widely during the summer season. The total watermelon production is around 2,495 thousand metric tons (MT). It is grown on about 100 thousand hectares on land. This shows that watermelon farming is an important part of agriculture in the country, especially in warm regions.

Most Watermelon Producing State in India

Uttar Pradesh is the largest watermelon-producing state in India. It has the highest area of land used for growing watermelons. The state has good soil and climate for watermelon farming.

Watermelon Production in Uttar Pradesh

In the year 2021-22, Uttar Pradesh had 16.86 thousand hectares of land used for growing watermelons. That year, India produced around 2,787 thousand tonnes of watermelon, and Uttar Pradesh had a big share in it. In 2024, the watermelon-growing area in the state was about 16.349 thousand hectares, showing its continued importance.

Apart from Uttar Pradesh, major watermelon producing states are:

  • Andhra Pradesh
  • Tamil Nadu
  • Karnataka
  • Odisha

These states also have a good climate and land for growing this juicy fruit.
