Mukhyamantri Swasth Bastar Abhiyan Improves Maternal and Child Healthcare in Sukma

The Mukhyamantri Swasth Bastar Abhiyan (Chief Minister’s Health Bastar Mission) is showing satisfactory results as far as improvement in the health status, especially maternal and child health, is concerned in the state of the Chhattisgarh. In Sukma district, which is one of the most backward and Naxal-affected districts, the program has seen a miraculous reduction in maternal mortality and infant mortality, as well as increase in institutional deliveries to nearly 98.6 percent. The program is ensuring successful maternal and child health services which are attributed to early registration of pregnant ladies, regular ante-natal care services, and doorstep health services.

What is the Mukhyamantri Swasth Bastar Abhiyan?

The Mukhyamantri Swasth Bastar Abhiyan is a prominent program developed by the Government of Chhattisgarh to improve the healthcare facilities in the remote districts of the Bastar region.

The initiative was initiated by Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai on 14 April 2026 in Sukma. The main objective of the initiative is to deliver proper healthcare services to the rural areas that have not had enough access to hospitals due to geographical difficulties and Left Wing Extremism activities.

This program focuses on preventive healthcare services, child health care, disease detection, and appropriate treatment.

Notable Progress in Maternal and Child Healthcare

The project has led to significant advancements in maternal and child healthcare status in Sukma district.

As per the officials of the district,

  • Declining rates of Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR).
  • Reduced rates of Infant Mortality Rate (IMR).
  • Higher rates of institutional deliveries (98.6%).
  • Improved tracking of pregnant women and high-risk pregnancies.

These results indicate the effectiveness of continuous healthcare delivery and improved accessibility of institutional health services.

Institutional Deliveries Rise to 98.6%

The rise in institutional deliveries can be credited as one of the most important achievements of the program.

Concerned officials informed that the institutional deliveries have gone up from about 96-97% to 98.6%, which indicates an increase in public faith in government health centers.

The public awareness campaigns, availability of ambulances, and improving the maternity health services have made people go for institutional deliveries.

Detecting Early and Managing Pregnant Women

One of the key goals of the campaign is to make sure that every pregnant woman gets proper medical attention on time.

Health teams are in charge of the,

  • Early registering of pregnancies.
  • Consistent antenatal visits.
  • Giving vaccination.
  • Checking for risk in pregnancy.
  • Continuous monitoring through pregnancy.

As per Sukma Collector Amit Kumar, every pregnant woman in the area is now under the monitoring system of the health department, thus securing proper medical supervision during the pregnancy.

Healthcare in Hard-to-Reach Locations

This initiative expanded healthcare coverage in inaccessible regions.

Healthcare professionals are reaching out to villagers in,

  • Dense forests.
  • Hilly regions.
  • Inland areas of tribal communities.

Even when there are logistical problems, medical workers are performing house-to-house health check-ups, allowing them to detect less privileged persons and make sure that they are treated timely.
