Mumbai Debuts in IWG 2026 Work From Anywhere Index With 77

The first appearance of Mumbai in the IWG 2026 Work from Anywhere Index has taken place. It is the only Indian city included in the global ranking that evaluates destinations suitable for professionals who are combining remote working with traveling. In total, the city earned 77 points with the best results in terms of transport, flexible workspace options, weather and accommodation. However, Mumbai was scored relatively poorly for its broadband speed, events and happiness.

Position of Mumbai in the Global Ranking

IWG evaluates destinations on the basis of several key criteria related to life of people working remotely. They include weather, broadband internet, accommodation, transport, culture, food and flexible workspaces.

Total score of 77 earned by Mumbai is higher than those of such world-famous cities as London and Miami. Good transport system, accommodation and flexible workspace market are the factors that contribute to success of the city.

However, there are still some weaknesses in Mumbai.

Bangkok Leads 2026 Work From Anywhere Index

Mumbai lags somewhat behind the top destinations in the ranking.

Bangkok led the 2026 index with 106.5 points, followed by,

  • Tokyo – 96.5
  • Barcelona – 95.5
  • Porto
  • Vancouver

Budapest, Naples, Medellin, Lisbon and Seoul were other top 10 destinations.

It seems that an effective workcation destination requires not just beautiful spots for tourism. Internet connection, transportation options, accommodation facilities and work spaces seem to play an important role as well as food, cultural activities and experiences.

Flexible Workspace Market in India Boosts Mumbai’s Chances

Moreover, Mumbai’s selection as one of the best work from anywhere destinations occurs in the context of rapidly growing flexible workspace industry in India.

According to Cushman & Wakefield’s Global Trends in Flexible Office 2025 report quoted in the article, India has scored the highest 100 on the flexible workspace maturity index.

India was also recognized as the largest flexible office market in the Asia-Pacific region, with 79.7 million sq ft of flexible workspace inventory in the eight top cities as of Q2 2025. The number is forecast to exceed 100 million sq ft by 2026.

Along with Bangalore, Delhi-NCR, Pune and Hyderabad, Mumbai has been considered one of the major flexible workspace markets in India.

Work from Anywhere Is Rewriting The Way People Travel

The study by IWG among 2,000 hybrid workers in the UK and US shows increasing desire among people to incorporate work into vacations.

Some 51% of them confirmed that their companies currently provide a work-from-anywhere policy. On the other hand, 90% of them admitted that work from anywhere helped improve their work-life balance and 80% found themselves more productive.

More than 48% of them have plans of extending their vacation or trip with work-from-remote in 2026. Their main motive is wellbeing, with 54% mentioning avoidance of burnout.

Connectivity Is Key Factor

Connectivity is one of the key factors for remote workers when it comes to choosing their destinations. As many as 38% of respondents chose Wi-Fi as the main criterion.

In this regard, relatively poor performance of Mumbai when it comes to the quality of broadband network is something that needs to be improved if the city wants to become a stronger contender for the title of global workation destination.
