Nation Observes Antyodaya Divas 2022: 25 September

Antyodaya Diwas is celebrated annually on 25th September in India. It marks the birth anniversary of Indian leader Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya and is celebrated in his honour to remember his life and legacy. He was one of the most prominent personalities in the history of Indian politics. This year, the Antyodaya Diwas marks the 105th birth anniversary of Upadhyaya. He was the co-founder of Bharatiya Jana Sangh (BJS) and a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) thinker.

What is the meaning of Antyodaya Diwas?

Antyodaya means uplifting the poorest of the poor, the special day aims at reaching the weakest section of the society. On this day, Upadhyaya is remembered for his contribution to society and politics that he played in the upliftment of the poor.

About the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya:

  • Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya was born on 25th September 1916 in the Chandrabhan village near the Fareh town in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. He was born into a Brahmin family.
  • His father name was Bhagwati Prasad who was an astrologer while his mother name was Rampyari. When he was just eight years old both of his parents passed away and he was raised by his maternal uncle.
  • Then by the 1940s, he got big in RSS he also met the founder KB Hedgewar and underwent a 40-day camp in Sangh education and the second year of training in the RSS education wing. Then he got indulged in spreading the ideology of Hindutva nationalism across the country.
  • Because of all this progress, he co-founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh party in 1951 which was the predecessor of the Bhartiya Janta Party. Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya died at the age of 51. As he was mysteriously found dead while travelling at Mughal Sarai in Uttar Pradesh on 11th February 1968. But his legacy still lives today among the people as we celebrate Antyodaya Diwas.

This day inspires the government and the people to help in bringing prosperity and success to those communities who are considered the weakest sections of society today, it aims to provide inclusive growth to the country so that no member of the society is left behind. This day is all about encouraging people to help those who are in greater need of help them so that they can also experience prosperity.
