National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF): 2024
Union Minister for Education Shri Dharmendra Pradhan on August 12, released the India Rankings 2024, which implements the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) drafted for this purpose by the Ministry of Education in 2015. Secretary, Higher Education, Shri K. Sanjay Murthy; UGC, Prof. M Jagadesh Kumar; Chairman, AICTE, Prof. T.G. Sitharam; Chairman, NETF, Prof. Anil Sahasrabuddhe; Member Secretary, NBA, Dr. Anil Kumar Nassa, Additional Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Shri Sunil Kumar Barnwal; Joint Secretary, Shri Govind Jaiswal; Chairman, and other academicians, heads of the institutions, etc. were present on this occasion.
According to the last year’s ranking, IIT Madras secured the top spot in the ‘overall’ category, followed by IISc Bengaluru and IIT Delhi in second and third place respectively. For the 7th consecutive year, Miranda House topped the NIRF rankings, with four other DU colleges were ranked among the Top 10 in the NIRF rankings. The NIRF framework outlines methodology to rank institutions across the country. The methodology is based on recommendations and findings of a Core Committee set up by MHRD which identifies the key parameters for ranking various universities and institutions.
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was officially introduced by the Ministry of Resource Development (HRD) on September 29, 2015, with the Minister of HRD formally launching initiative. The NIRF ranking event will be held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The Minister of State Education Sukanto Majumdar shall also be present at this event.
The NIRF rankings will cover 13 categories including universities, colleges, research institutions, engineering, management, pharmacy, medical, dental, law, architecture and planning, agriculture and allied sectors and innovation.
