NCERT Introduces Operation Sindoor Modules: A Tribute to Bravery, Technology, and National Resolve

National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) unveiled new curriculum modules on Operation Sindoor, calling it a “saga of courage” and a transformative moment in India’s military and political response to terrorism. The modules are designed for Classes 3 to 12, narrating the events leading to and following the May 2025 precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).

What is Operation Sindoor?

Context and Trigger

Operation Sindoor was launched in retaliation to the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam terror attack, where 26 civilians, including a Nepali national, were killed by terrorists from The Resistance Front (TRF). The attack drew widespread national grief and calls for decisive action. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, cutting short his Saudi Arabia trip, returned to lead the response.

Name and Symbolism

The operation was named “Sindoor,” symbolizing solidarity with the widows of the victims. Sindoor, traditionally worn by married Hindu women, was chosen to represent empathy, unity, and a vow to uphold national dignity.

Curriculum Overview

Titles and Target Groups

  • Classes 3–8: Operation Sindoor – A Saga of Valour
  • Classes 9–12: Operation Sindoor – A Mission of Honour and Bravery

Narrative Style

The modules are crafted in a conversational format, simulating discussions between students and teachers. This storytelling approach helps simplify complex military and geopolitical themes for younger audiences.

Learning Objectives and Themes

Courage and Responsibility

The modules assert that India acted with precision and restraint, targeting terror bases without harming civilians. The contrast is drawn with Pakistan’s ceasefire violations, which reportedly killed 14 civilians.

Technological Self-Reliance

A major takeaway is India’s capability to execute complex military operations using indigenous defence systems, showcasing self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

National Unity

The text underscores how the attack aimed to create communal unrest but failed due to citizen solidarity and inclusive mourning.
