Recently, Gujarat added a new district to make local administration easier and more efficient for its citizens.

An Overview of Gujarat

Gujarat is a state in western India with the longest coastline in the country, about 1,600 km. It is the fifth-largest state by area and ninth by population. Number of Districts of Gujarat

Gujarat has a total of 34 districts. These districts help in better administration and development across the state. Each district is managed by local authorities to ensure smooth governance and public services for the people living in different parts of Gujarat.

Newest District of Gujarat

On January 1, 2025, the state of Gujarat added a new district named Vav-Tharad by dividing the existing Banaskantha district. With this change, Gujarat now has a total of 34 districts. Van-Tharad was created to improve local administration and bring development to the region. The district consists of 8 talukas: Vav, Bhabhar, Tharad, Dhanera, Suigam, Lakhni, Deodar and Kankrej.

An Overview of the Vav-Tharad

Vav-Tharad is a newly formed district in the northern part of Gujarat. The headquarters of the district is the city of Tharad. The district is important for both its location and local culture. It was earlier a part of Banaskantha, but now functions as an independent administrative region. This change is expected to help improve infrastructure, governance and local facilities.

Location of Vav-Tharad

Vav-Tharad is located on the eastern side of the Rann of Kutch. It touches the Rajasthan state on its northern side. To the east, it is bordered by Banaskantha district, while to the west, it shares a boundary with Kutch district. In the south, it is bordered by Patan district. Its location near the Rann and the Rajasthan border makes it geographically and strategically important.
