NHAI Launches FASTag Annual Pass for Seamless Highway Travel

In a significant step to improve the ease of living for Indian citizens, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) launched the FASTag Annual Pass facility on 15 August 2025. Aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of leveraging technology to streamline services, this initiative aims to make toll payments more efficient, economical, and user-friendly. With immediate nationwide rollout across 1,150 toll plazas, the response from highway users has been overwhelmingly positive.

What is the FASTag Annual Pass?

One-Time Fee, Year-Long Convenience

The FASTag Annual Pass allows non-commercial vehicle owners to travel across national highways without repeated toll recharges. The pass costs ₹3,000 and is valid for one year or 200 toll crossings, whichever comes first. This initiative simplifies the toll payment process and eliminates the hassle of frequent FASTag top-ups.

Eligibility and Activation

  • Applicable to all non-commercial vehicles with a valid FASTag.
  • Can be activated through the Rajmargyatra App or NHAI website.
  • Activation happens within two hours of payment confirmation.

Nationwide Rollout and User Response

Widespread Implementation

The annual pass has been implemented at approximately 1,150 toll plazas covering both National Highways and Expressways. This blanket coverage ensures uniformity and convenience for users across the country.

Massive First-Day Adoption

On the launch day alone,

  • 1.4 lakh users purchased and activated the pass.
  • 1.39 lakh transactions were recorded at toll plazas.
  • 20,000–25,000 users accessed the Rajmargyatra App concurrently.
  • Pass users received SMS confirmations for zero toll deduction during crossings.

Support Infrastructure and Grievance Redressal

  • To ensure smooth implementation and user satisfaction:
  • Nodal officers have been appointed at every toll plaza.
  • Query resolution channels have been set up for real-time assistance.

Strengthened 1033 Helpline

  • The 1033 National Highway Helpline has been upgraded.
  • Over 100 new executives have been deployed to manage user grievances and provide assistance.
