NICMAR Hyderabad Achieves Platinum Certification under IGBC Green Campus Rating

The National Institute of Construction Management and Research (NICMAR), located in Hyderabad, has recently been awarded the prestigious Platinum certification by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) under its Green Campus Rating program. This accomplishment highlights NICMAR Hyderabad’s commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly practices in its campus operations and infrastructure.

Overview of NICMAR Hyderabad

NICMAR Hyderabad, situated in the serene locality of Shamirpet, offers a unique blend of cultural heritage and modern educational approaches. The campus provides a comprehensive academic experience through its various schools, including the School of Construction and Technology, School of Business Management, School of Executive Education & Industry Relations, School of Real Estate, and the School of Energy and Clean Technology. The institute boasts state-of-the-art infrastructure, including well-equipped classrooms, a richly stocked library, comfortable accommodation facilities, and extensive learning resources.

Platinum Certification Achievement

The IGBC Platinum Certification is a testament to NICMAR Hyderabad’s significant efforts in promoting sustainability. The campus stands out with over 25 trees per acre, amounting to a 47% green cover, and features water-efficient irrigation systems. A significant portion (90.04%) of the landscape area is adorned with drought-tolerant or native species, while a smaller percentage (9.96%) is covered by turf.

The campus has also implemented a sewage treatment plant (STP) for treating 100% on-site wastewater, which is subsequently used for landscaping. Additionally, NICMAR Hyderabad has established dedicated networks for bicycles and pedestrians, promoting sustainable transportation.

C. Shekar Reddy, Chairman of CII Telangana and the IGBC Hyderabad Chapter, emphasizes that this certification not only acknowledges NICMAR’s green initiatives but also sets a benchmark for other educational institutions to prioritize eco-conscious practices for a sustainable future.

Impact and Future Prospects

NICMAR Hyderabad’s achievement in receiving the IGBC Platinum certification marks a significant milestone in the institute’s journey towards environmental sustainability. This recognition serves as an inspiration for other institutions to adopt similar green practices, contributing to a more sustainable and eco-friendly educational environment in India.

NICMAR’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond its campus boundaries, influencing young architects and future leaders to embrace eco-friendly practices in their professional lives. This approach is crucial in the current global context, where environmental consciousness and sustainable development are increasingly becoming central themes in education and industry.
