Odisha has introduced India’s first round-the-clock grain dispensing machine, known as the Annapurti Grain ATM, designed to transform the Public Distribution System (PDS) for ration cardholders. Officially launched by Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra, this innovative machine is located at a warehouse in Mancheswar and developed in collaboration with the World Food Programme.
Operation: The ATM dispenses up to 50 kg of rice in just five minutes with a minimal error rate of 0.01%.
Usage: Users enter their ration card number on a touchscreen, complete biometric verification (fingerprint or iris scan), and receive their rice (up to 25 kg) after successful verification.
Reduced Queues: Eliminates long waits at traditional distribution points.
Decreased Theft and Black Marketing: Minimizes issues related to fraud.
Accuracy and Efficiency: Ensures precise weight and cuts waiting times by 70%.
24/7 Access: Provides continuous access to rice.
Initial Deployment: Launched in Bhubaneswar, with plans to extend to all 30 districts of Odisha.
Future Prospects: Potential expansion under the One Nation One Ration Card scheme to other states.
Design: Consumes only 0.6 watts per hour and can be connected to solar panels for automatic refilling.
Setup: Designed for energy efficiency and easy installation in various locations.
Ghost Ration Card Holders: Over 16 lakh ghost card holders have been identified and will be removed from the system. Eligible individuals will not be affected.
KYC Updates: Implementation of Aadhar-based e-KYC verification for enhanced transparency.
New Initiatives: Issuing individual ration cards for those who have separated from their parents, home delivery for the elderly and disabled, and a special biometric system for beneficiaries with thumb impression issues.
