Pepsi, one of the world’s most recognizable brands, has made a bold move by introducing a fresh logo and revamped brand identity after 14 years of consistency. The cola giant debuted its new visual identity worldwide on March 1st, 2024, marking a significant shift in its image.
The journey towards this new visual identity began in March 2023 when Pepsi unveiled the new logo exclusively in North America to celebrate the brand’s 125th anniversary. However, the global launch on March 1st, 2024, was marked by an impressive takeover of iconic landmarks across the world with larger-than-life digital installations.
In a coordinated effort, Pepsi orchestrated 120 CGI moments worldwide, including installations at iconic locations like Hosier Lane in Melbourne, Australia, Gaddafi Cricket Stadium in Pakistan, and Ho Chi Minh and Warsaw, among others. These installations showcased the brand’s new identity in a grand and memorable manner.
The refreshed identity of Pepsi draws inspiration from its 125-year history, borrowing equity from its logos of the 60s, 80s, and 90s. One of the most significant updates is the return of the ‘Pepsi’ wordmark to its place in the yin-yang globe, reminiscent of its design from the 80s and 90s.
During the design process, Pepsi engaged its fans by asking them to draw the logo as they remembered it. Surprisingly, the majority included the ‘Pepsi’ text within the globe, inspiring Pepsi to bring back this nostalgic element.
The new logo features a bold color palette, a white wave, and a retro-inspired, uppercase typeface, reflecting Pepsi’s unapologetic mindset. The emphasis on black and sleekness is a significant departure from its traditional design, signaling a pivot towards healthier choices and a more health-conscious lifestyle.
Pepsi’s brand refresh aims to expand its reach among the GenZ cohort, with a focus on healthier alternatives. The brand will support various cultural moments throughout 2024, reinforcing its commitment to entertainment, music, sports, and culture.
Campaign explored Pepsi’s logo evolution by delving into archives, tracing changes since its 1893 inception as Brad’s Drink. The bold new logo signifies Pepsi’s brand evolution, blending heritage with forward-thinking vision, captivating global audiences with its innovative approach.
