PM GatiShakti Completes 4 Years of Infrastructure Integration

On 13th October, 2025 marks the fourth anniversary of the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, a transformative initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 13th October 2021. Designed to revolutionize India’s infrastructure ecosystem, the master plan has become a central tool in streamlining project implementation, enhancing connectivity, and improving logistics across the country.

What is PM GatiShakti?

  • PM GatiShakti is India’s first-of-its-kind integrated multimodal infrastructure planning framework.
  • The goal is to bring together transportation, logistics, and infrastructure development into one unified platform to eliminate bottlenecks, reduce project delays, and enhance coordination across government departments.
  • The plan integrates 44 Central Ministries and 36 States and Union Territories, allowing them to collaboratively plan and execute infrastructure projects using a Geographic Information System (GIS)-based digital platform.

Key Objectives of GatiShakti

  • Seamless Connectivity: Improve last-mile linkages between transport networks (rail, road, port, air) for efficient goods and passenger movement.
  • Time & Cost Efficiency: Reduce travel time and logistics costs by eliminating isolated planning and overlapping efforts.
  • Data-Driven Planning: Use GIS mapping to track real-time progress and optimize resource allocation.
  • Boost to Economic Zones: Enable faster infrastructure rollout to industrial clusters, ports, airports, SEZs, and logistics parks.
  • Sustainable Development: Minimize environmental impact through optimized route planning and integration of green corridors.

Achievements in Four Years

  • Widespread Integration: GatiShakti has now become the core of India’s infrastructure decision-making. Over 44 ministries and all states/UTs are onboarded onto the common platform.
  • Digital Project Monitoring: Through the National Master Plan portal, real-time data on roads, railways, power lines, and more are visually available for planners.
  • Enhanced Project Coordination: Ministries now align timelines and plans, avoiding duplication and ensuring smooth implementation of key projects.
  • Logistics Efficiency: The GatiShakti framework supports the National Logistics Policy, improving freight corridors and reducing logistics cost from 13–14% to a targeted 8–9% of GDP.
  • Faster Clearances: Project approvals and environment clearances have become quicker due to data availability and inter-agency coordination.

Importance

  • GatiShakti is not just about faster roads or bigger ports; it’s about strategically aligning India’s infrastructure with its economic ambitions.
  • Whether it’s boosting exports, connecting rural areas, or building smart cities, this platform is central to India’s infrastructure future.

It also plays a pivotal role in,

  • Realizing “Make in India” by improving supply chain connectivity.
  • Strengthening India’s competitiveness in the global trade ecosystem.
  • Supporting the PM MITRA textile parks, Defence Corridors, and Logistics Parks through efficient infrastructure linkage.
