PM Modi Addressed Parliament on Middle East Conflict: Check Key Highlights
Amid rising global tensions around the world Prime Minister Narendra Modi have addressed the Lok Sabha on March 23 2026 regarding the ongoing West Asia crisis. PM Modi called the situation ‘serious and concerning’ and also he highlighted the impact on global economy, energy supply and Indian citizens abroad. As he mentioned in his speech with nearly 1 crore Indians living in Gulf countries and the government has prioritized their safety while ensuring stable fuel supplies in India. The address reflects the balanced approach of India while focusing on diplomacy, preparedness and national unity during a global crisis.
The Honorable Prime Minister described the ongoing conflict in West Asia as serious and prolonged. Also noting that it has already lasted for more than the three weeks. While Addressing Parliament directly shows the importance India’s attachment to the crisis.
He said that the situation is not just regional but has global implications which is affecting economies, trade routes and everyday lives of people across countries.
As the Energy security remains one of India’s biggest concerns emerged during this crisis. PM Modi highlights the importance of the Strait of Hormuz inthrough which a large portion of India’s crude oil, gas and fertilizers are imported.
Due to the conflict situation maritime movement in this region has become challenging, tough and raising concerns about supply disruptions.
However the government has taken proactive measures to ensure that petrol, diesel and gas supplies should remain stable across the country.
He also focused on India’s long-term strategy which includes diversifying energy imports from 27 to 41 countries and building strong reserves to reduce dependency on any single region.
One of the key highlights of the Prime Minister speech was India’s preparedness to handling energy crises. He stated that India hold currently Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) of about53 lakh metric tonnes and also hints to expand it further.
These reserves act as a buffer during the global supply disruptions and also ensuring that the country can maintain energy stability even during crises.
Along with this India is focusing on reducing dependence on fossil fuels through initiatives like ethanol blending (now close to 20%), renewable energy expansion and electric mobility.
The safety of Indian citizens in West Asia is a top priority, PM speaks in loksabha.
PM Modi highlighted that Indian missions are working round-the-clock and providing assistance, advisories and emergency support.
So far over 3,75,000 Indians have returned safely to country and including a large number of students from Iran.
The West Asia region is crucial for India’s trade and supply chains. Any disruption to that route will affects imports of essential commodities like oil, gas and fertilizers.
PM Modi gave assurance that despite global price increases the government is working to protect the common citizens and farmers from financial burdens.
He also cited past examples where subsidies had been ensured for affordable fertilizer prices even during global spikes.
India has also strengthened its agricultural sector by increasing domestic production of fertilizers align with ensuring food security through sufficient grain stocks.
In hi speech, he mentioned that India has always maintained a consistent stance of peace and diplomacy in international conflicts.
PM Modi reiterated that dialogue is the only solution to the ongoing crisis.
India is actively engaging with global countries to ensure secure maritime routes and stable supply chains.
