PM Modi Announces Nationwide Talent Hunt for Children Aged 5–15 Ahead of India’s 2036 Olympics Dream
Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing from the Red Fort on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day on August 15, 2026, unveiled an ambitious initiative of the Government to develop the sporting future of India. In his Independence Day Address, PM Modi disclosed that the Government will conduct a talent hunt across the country to spot the sporting talents among the children between the ages of 5 and 15 years.
This talent hunt initiative is very much connected with the dream of India to establish itself as a major sporting nation and win the bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games. As per PM Modi, the children who are now 5, 10 or 15 years old may well become the athletes of India in 2036 Olympics.
Proposed program will attempt to identify and nurture the hidden talents of the children from the villages, towns, cities, and schools of the country.
In his address on the occasion of Independence Day, PM Modi emphasized that India needs to identify and nurture sporting talent right from a young age.
As per the proposed program, the Government will conduct a talent hunt among children of age group of 5-15 years in all parts of India including the rural areas and small towns.
Thus, it is clear that the talent hunt program attempts to widen the base of the youth athletes through a wider scope of the talent search process.
Further, PM Modi informed that the Olympic Games includes about 40 different sports disciplines and roughly 325 to 350 medal events, however, India does not have the athletes of many of these sports.
Therefore, widening the talent base of the country will definitely assist India to participate in a wide variety of events in the Olympic Games.

This strategy corresponds to the models of developed countries and their experience related to the early identification and development of talents in sport.
According to the plans of India, the country will host the Olympic Games in 2036, and this talent hunt will be part of the long-term project focused on improving the sporting performance.
If the country will hold the Olympics in 2036, the majority of athletes participating in those Olympics will be people from the current younger generation.
Thus, it is necessary to identify talented children now and support them for about ten years so that the athletes could participate in the Olympics and demonstrate the best results in their sport disciplines.

A nation-wide talent hunt is expected to support the above program by widening the scope of talent identification and making more children part of the sporting world.
