Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Poland marked a historic moment as it was the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 45 years. The visit focused on enhancing India-Poland relations across various sectors and strengthening the bond between the two nations.

P.M Modi encouraged the diaspora to promote Indian tourism and announced the launch of the Jamsaheb Memorial Youth Exchange Program, which will invite 20 Polish youth to India each year. He also recalled Poland’s assistance during the Gujarat earthquake and discussed India’s progress over the past decade. He expressed confidence that India would become the third-largest economy in the coming years, aiming for developed nation status by 2047. He highlighted collaboration between India and Poland in technology, clean energy, and green growth.
Modi met with Donald Tusk, Prime Minister of Poland, in Warsaw, where the two leaders upgraded India-Poland relations to a “Strategic Partnership.” Their discussions covered a range of topics, including trade, investment, science, technology, defense, security, cultural cooperation, and people-to-people ties. The leaders identified opportunities for collaboration in sectors like food processing, urban infrastructure, water management, electric vehicles, green hydrogen, renewable energy, AI, and mining. They also underscored the importance of cultural ties, referencing the historical bond between the two countries.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that India could play a crucial role in resolving the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Tusk said, “We began by discussing some very emotional issues. PM Modi confirmed his readiness for a peaceful, rightful, and immediate end to the war. We believe that India can play an essential and very constructive role, making this announcement highly important for us.”The Polish Prime Minister also said that he believes Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Ukraine, where he is currently, will be ‘historic’.
Prime Minister Modi paid tribute at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Warsaw, a monument dedicated to Polish soldiers who died serving their country. This gesture highlighted the respect and solidarity between India and Poland.
P.M Modi met with Poland’s President Andrzej Duda at the Belweder Palace, where they discussed upgrading bilateral ties to a Strategic Partnership. The discussions also touched on regional and global issues, including the conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia.
P.M Modi expressed gratitude for Poland’s assistance during Operation Ganga and invited President Duda to visit India. Both leaders reiterated their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation and agreed to work together in areas such as defense, technology, energy, and the environment.
During his visit, Modi met with prominent Polish scholars and Indologists, appreciating their contributions to India-Poland cultural ties. He also engaged with business leaders from Poland, discussing investment opportunities in India and the potential for collaboration in sectors like IT, hygiene products, and emerging technologies.
P.M Modi met with members of the Kabaddi Federation of Poland, commending their efforts to popularize the sport in Europe. He highlighted the role of sports in fostering cultural exchange between India and Poland. The visit to Poland is part of Prime Minister Modi’s two-nation tour, with Ukraine as his next destination.
