PM Modi Inaugurates India’s First Namo Bharat RRTS Launched On This Corridor

Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the India’s first Namo Bharat Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) and dedicated the Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor to the citizens on 22 February 2026 in Meerut. The project marks the first time in India about that a rapid rail and metro service operate from the same station and on the same track. The Prime Minister described the as a new era of world class infrastructure for Uttar Pradesh and the country.

India’s First RRTS & Meerut Metro Inauguration

The Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor is India’s first operational Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). Alongside this, the Meerut Metro was also inaugurated from the same platform.

Key Highlights,

  • First time Namo Bharat and Metro rail will run on same track and station
  • Integrated transport model for intra city and inter city travel
  • Rapid connectivity between Delhi and Meerut
  • Direct travel from the same platform within city or to Delhi

The project gives commuters flexibility to the metro for city travel and Namo Bharat trains for high-speed regional travel.

Boost to NCR Connectivity & Twin Cities Vision

The integrated corridor will strengthens the “Twin Cities” concept by connecting Meerut and Delhi seamlessly.

According to the Prime Minister,

  • Commuters no longer need to rent homes in Delhi due to improved connectivity
  • Travel becomes faster, smoother and more convenient
  • Reduced travel time boosts economic integration

  • Sarai Kale Khan
  • Anand Vihar
  • Ghaziabad
  • Meerut

The corridor links Indian Railways, Metro and bus terminals for seamless multi-modal transport.

Infrastructure Growth & Employment Boost

The Prime Minister highlighted that infrastructure investments like,

  • Expressways
  • Freight corridors
  • Jewar International Airport
  • Rapid Rail corridors

are creating massive employment and industrial growth in Uttar Pradesh.

He noted that metro services expanded from just 5 cities before 2014 to more than 25 cities today, making India the third-largest metro network in the world.

Women Empowerment in Namo Bharat Operations

A significant feature of the Namo Bharat RRTS is women’s participation. The Prime Minister emphasized that,

  • Most train operators are women
  • Station control staff includes a majority of women

He described the project as a symbol of Nari Shakti in infrastructure and transport sectors.
