Prashant Pise Appointed India’s Ambassador to Oman

India has appointed senior diplomat Prashant Pise as Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman. Prashant is an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer and currently serves as the Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs.

Prashant Pise India’s Next Ambassador to Oman

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced the appointment of the Prashant Pise as the India’s next Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman.

He is 1995 batch Indian Foreign Service officer and he will replace the Godavarthi Venkata Srinivas.

Godavarthi Venkata Srinivas is a senior diplomat from the 1993 IFS batch who has been serving as the India’s envoy in Muscat.

Who Is Prashant Pise?

Prashant Pise is the highly experienced diplomat with decades of experience in the Indian foreign policy and international relations.

His diplomatic journey includes the significant overseas assignments and policy roles.

His first foreign posting was in the Cairo, Egypt, from 1997 to 2000 where he had gained early diplomatic experience in a key geopolitical region.

He later served in the Tripoli, Libya until the year 2004 and further expands his engagement in the Middle East and North Africa.

He was back in New Delhi and he worked as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs between 2004 and 2006.

His responsibilities included,

  • Russia relations
  • Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS)
  • Central Asia affairs
  • United Nations economic and social matters

Current Role in the Ministry of External Affairs

Before this new appointment he has been serving as Additional Secretary (Emigration Policy and Welfare) in the Ministry of External Affairs.

This role is important because it deals with overseas areas like Indian welfare, migration frameworks and worker protection issues which are deeply linked to Gulf countries where large Indian communities live and work.

In the month of February 2026, he led the Indian delegation at the 8th Ministerial Consultations of the Abu Dhabi Dialogue in Dubai and highlights his continued involvement in labor mobility and international migration diplomacy.

The appointment is strategically important because Oman remains India’s one of the most trusted partners in the Gulf region.
