President Launches ‘My Bengal, Addiction-Free Bengal’ Campaign In Kolkata

At an occasion held at the Raj Bhavan, President Droupadi Murmu launched the ‘My Bengal, Addiction-Free Bengal‘ campaign, a vital undertaking organised by the Brahma Kumaris, aimed at tackling the prevalent issue of drug usage among the youth.

Acknowledging the joint endeavors of both the central and state governments in confronting this concern, the president underscored the pressing need to urgently discover viable solutions to eradicate this threat from society.

Holistic Approaches to Combat Addiction

President Droupadi Murmu outlined a multi-faceted approach to tackling the issue of drug abuse, advocating for solutions that involve spiritual awakening, medical intervention, social unity, and determined political will. She emphasized that addiction often stems from mental stress and peer pressure, resulting in harmful consequences for both the individuals involved and their families. She also applauded organizations such as the Brahma Kumaris for engaging in discussions around these critical matters and actively working to find resolutions.

Support from Prominent Figures

The event was graced by the presence of West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose and state minister for women and child development and social welfare Shashi Panja. President Murmu extended her appreciation to Prajapita Brahmakumari Ishwariya Vishwavidyalaya for launching the ‘My Bengal, Addiction Free Bengal’ initiative as part of the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan‘.

Anti-Social Elements and Wasted Potential

President Murmu cautioned against the exploitation of drug usage by anti-social elements for criminal activities. She lamented that the resources expended on purchasing drugs are diverted towards activities that undermine the welfare of society.

Moreover, she expressed her concerns regarding the younger generation, characterizing them as the nation’s most prized resources, and highlighted the alarming wastage of their potential due to addiction.

Additionally, she urged all educational institutions to assume a crucial role in identifying any deviation from the correct path among students. She underscored that ensuring the preservation of the youth’s potential is important for the advancement of the nation.
