President Murmu Awarded Honorary Doctorate in Algeria

President Droupadi Murmu, on her three-nation tour, received an Honorary Doctorate in Political Science from Sidi Abdellah Science and Technology Pole University in Algiers on October 14. Expressing her gratitude, she stated, “It is indeed a humbling experience for me to be honoured with the Honorary Doctorate. This is an honour for my country more than for me as an individual.” She underscored the importance of education in reducing inequalities and urged Algerian students to engage with India’s educational initiatives.

During her address, Murmu emphasized India’s dedication to providing quality education at affordable prices, particularly for African students. She invited Algerian institutions to take advantage of scholarships and educational programs offered by the Indian government, highlighting the success of ITEC alumni who have become leaders in various fields. Murmu stated, “Education neutralizes inequalities and promotes equal opportunity for all.”

Advancements in Technology and Space

Murmu discussed India’s technological advancements and their significance in empowering women in the workforce, noting that 36% of IT professionals are women. She also highlighted Algeria’s interest in collaborating with India on digital payment systems and space exploration, referencing India’s upcoming Gaganyaan mission, which aims to launch astronauts into space next year.

Reflecting on the historical ties between India and Algeria, Murmu remarked on the long-standing relationship that dates back to Algeria’s liberation struggle. She expressed optimism for future collaborations, stating, “The current developments are a good beginning,” and encouraged the youth of both nations to strengthen the existing cordial relations.
