Punjab Government Notifies 8% DA Hike for Employees and Pensioners

The Punjab government has officially notified 8 percentage points hike in DA for the employees of Punjab Government and similarly increase in DR in case of pensioners and family pensioners. The effective date of the new rates of DA and DR is September 1, 2026. The DA has increased from 42% to 50%.

Punjab Government Hikes DA in State

The Punjab government has officially introduced an 8 percentage points hike in the DA of the eligible state government employees.

This increased DA is applicable from September 1st, 2026, and will be paid with the salaries of the respective employees in accordance with the government rules.

In the case of pensioners and family pensioners, DR has been increased from 42% to 50%, which is effective from September 1st 2026.

What Prompted the Increase in DA?

This was after consultations between employee-trade unions and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, concerning various matters of services, which included the need for an increase in DA. Chief Minister had assured that the employees’ needs will be given due consideration and required actions will be taken. The government accordingly gave out the increased allowance.

According to the statement of the government, the increased allowance will provide some additional help to the employees amid increased costs in the expenses and costs of the necessary commodities.

DA and DR: What is the Difference?

Dearness Allowance (DA) is an allowance granted to the eligible government employees as a compensation for the impact of the inflation on their salaries.

For pensioners and family pensioners, the related allowance is known as Dearness Relief (DR).

Accordingly, as per the latest Punjab government decision,

  • Employees: DA increased from 42% to the 50%.
  • Pensioners / Family Pensioners: DR increased from 42% to 50%.
  • Effective From: September 1st, 2026.
  • Increase: 8 percentage points.

Financial Information About Punjab DA Hike 2026

The hike has been made by way of an 8 percentage point adjustment, and not 8% on the existing DA. For instance, an adjustment from 42% to 50% would mean an increase in the DA rate by 8 percentage points.

The new amount that will be paid to an individual employee will depend upon the relevant basic pay and service rules. Likewise, the amount of DR paid to a retired person would depend upon their pension or family pension benefits.
