Qadian–Beas Railway Line Revived After Nearly 100 Years
The long-awaited Qadian–Beas Railway Line Project of Punjab has finally been revived and it marks the major milestone in the state’s infrastructure development journey. This project was announced by the Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries Ravneet Singh Bittu and this project will establish total 39.68-kilometre broad-gauge rail corridor which connecting the key locations in the Majha region.
The Qadian-Beas Railway Line is a proposed 39.68-kilometre broad-gauge corridor that will connect the Qadian in the Gurdaspur district with Beas in Amritsar district.
This project will be executed by the Northern Railway and it will improve the rail connectivity across several towns and villages in Punjab’s Majha region.

Once this project completes, this line will bring many underserved areas onto the railway network and will make the travel more convenient for residents and improving access to markets, services, and opportunities.
The Qadian-Beas rail link has a fascinating history that dates back to nearly 100 years.
This project was originally approved during the year 1928–29 by the then North-Western Railway during British rule. Construction work had reportedly progressed significantly by the early 1930s before it changing the priorities led to its discontinuation.
Recognizing the its developmental importance, the railway line was later included under the Socially Desirable Rail Connectivity Program and featured in to the supplementary Railway Budget of 2010-11.
However, there are various procedural and administrative challenges which delayed the its implementation.
