Once this project completes, this line will bring many underserved areas onto the railway network and will make the travel more convenient for residents and improving access to markets, services, and opportunities.

Century-Old Project Returns to Life

The Qadian-Beas rail link has a fascinating history that dates back to nearly 100 years.

This project was originally approved during the year 1928–29 by the then North-Western Railway during British rule. Construction work had reportedly progressed significantly by the early 1930s before it changing the priorities led to its discontinuation.

Recognizing the its developmental importance, the railway line was later included under the Socially Desirable Rail Connectivity Program and featured in to the supplementary Railway Budget of 2010-11.

However, there are various procedural and administrative challenges which delayed the its implementation.

Key Infrastructure Features

The railway corridor is planned with the modern infrastructure and the advanced safety features to ensure efficient operations.

Crossing Stations

Two crossing stations will be developed at the,

  • Ghuman
  • Butala

These stations will support the smoother train operations and improve service efficiency.

Bridges and Civil Infrastructure

  • The project includes total 11 major bridges and 121 minor bridges.
  • These structures will help to maintain the seamless rail connectivity across various geographical obstacles.

Road Under Bridges (RUBs)

  • Around 54 Road Under Bridges will be constructed to enhance the road-rail integration and will improve the public safety by reducing level crossing conflicts.

The railway line will also feature the,

  • Advanced signalling systems
  • Modern telecommunication infrastructure
  • Kavach train collision avoidance system

Strategic Importance for Northern India

Apart from the local connectivity, the Qadian-Beas Railway Line has considerable strategic significance.

Having an additional rail corridor will also improve the network resilience and operational flexibility and helping the Indian Railways maintain uninterrupted services in northern India.

This strategic value adds another layer of the importance to the project’s revival.
