Ravi Shankar Chhabi Appointed DIG in CRPF on Central Deputation
The Central Government has made a key senior-level police appointment by inducting an experienced IPS officer into a central armed police force. Ravi Shankar Chhabi, a 2007-batch IPS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the CRPF, strengthening leadership at a time of heightened internal security responsibilities.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has approved the appointment of Ravi Shankar Chhabi as DIG in the Central Reserve Police Force on central deputation.
The appointment has been cleared by the competent authority against an existing vacancy in the CRPF.
Such deputations allow experienced state cadre officers to contribute to national-level internal security and paramilitary leadership.
Before this appointment, Ravi Shankar Chhabi was serving in an important administrative role in Uttar Pradesh.
This role enhanced his exposure to citizen-centric policing and institutional reforms.
Ravi Shankar Chhabi is a Regular Recruit IPS officer of the 2007 batch from the Uttar Pradesh cadre.

Over the years, Chhabi has held diverse operational and reform-oriented postings.
Acted as Police Observer in the 2024 General Elections for Baramulla constituency.
Originally constituted as the Crown Representative Police in 1939.
