Power Grid Corporation, a leading state-owned enterprise, announced a significant change in its leadership on January 1. Ravindra Kumar Tyagi has been appointed as the new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), succeeding Sreekant Kandikuppa who retired upon reaching the age of superannuation.
Tyagi, aged 57, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his new role. He is an alumnus of Punjab Engineering College (PEC), Chandigarh, holding a degree in Electrical Engineering. Furthering his expertise, he completed his M.Tech in Energy Studies from the prestigious IIT Delhi. His academic credentials are further bolstered by his status as a ‘Fulbright Scholar’ from Carnegie Mellon University, USA.
With over 33 years of experience in the power sector, Tyagi has held various key positions in central public sector undertakings (CPSUs). His tenure at POWERGRID is marked by his expertise in handling multidisciplinary work across different business areas, including Asset Management, Engineering, and Business Development, both domestically and overseas.
Before ascending to the role of CMD, Tyagi served as the Director (Operations) at POWERGRID. In this capacity, he played a pivotal role in the company’s operations, contributing significantly to its growth and success. His leadership in POWERGRID’s North Eastern Region is particularly noteworthy.
Tyagi is not just a seasoned professional but also an active contributor to the academic field. He is an author of over 50 technical papers presented at various national and international conferences. This aspect of his career highlights his commitment to knowledge-sharing and innovation in the power sector.
