Atanu Chakraborty’s re-appointment as part-time Chairman of HDFC Bank for three years, effective from May 5, 2024, to May 4, 2027, has been approved by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The Board of Directors has also sanctioned his re-appointment as an Independent Director for the same tenure.
The RBI has given its nod for Atanu Chakraborty’s continuation as the part-time Chairman of HDFC Bank for the specified three-year term.
Following the RBI’s approval and upon the recommendation of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee, the bank’s board has ratified Chakraborty’s re-appointment as part-time Chairman and Independent Director.
Formerly a member of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in the Gujarat cadre for 35 years, Atanu Chakraborty has a robust background in finance, economic policy, infrastructure, and energy sectors.
Chakraborty held significant roles in the Government of India, notably serving as the Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Department of Economic Affairs (DEA). In this capacity, he played a pivotal role in coordinating economic policymaking, budget formulation, fiscal management, public debt management, and financial market development.
During his tenure, he spearheaded initiatives such as the National Infrastructure Pipeline (NIP), which underlined his commitment to fostering infrastructural development.
The bank has affirmed that Chakraborty is independent of other directors or key managerial personnel and is not barred from holding directorial positions by any regulatory authority.
