Reliance to Build Solar Project Three Times the Size of Singapore

Reliance Industries has announced a transformative energy plan to make Jamnagar and Kutch in Gujarat global centres for clean energy production. At the 48th Annual General Meeting, Anant Ambani, Director of Reliance New Energy, showcased the company’s massive infrastructure and technology push in solar, battery storage, and hydrogen. These developments promise to redefine India’s position in the global green energy economy.

Jamnagar: World’s Largest Integrated Energy Complex

A Giga Energy Marvel in the Making

The upcoming Dhirubhai Ambani Giga Energy Complex in Jamnagar is being built on an unprecedented scale. It includes gigafactories for solar panels, green hydrogen, battery storage, and electrolyser production, all within one complex. The project features,

  • 44 million sq ft of construction area
  • 7 lakh tonnes of steel – equivalent to 100 Eiffel Towers
  • 3.4 million cubic metres of concrete
  • 1 lakh kilometres of cable – enough to reach the moon and back
  • Workforce peaking at 50,000

Gigafactories for Batteries and Hydrogen

Reliance is rapidly constructing its battery gigafactory, set to begin in 2026 with an initial capacity of 40 GWh/year, scaling up to 100 GWh/year. Alongside, an electrolyser gigafactory will also go live by the end of 2026 with 3 GW/year capacity, enabling mass-scale green hydrogen production.

Kutch: Mega Solar Project with National Reach

Largest Single-Site Solar Farm

In Kutch, Reliance is setting up one of the world’s biggest solar projects, spanning 550,000 acres—about three times the size of Singapore. At full pace, the site will install,

  • 55 MW of solar modules daily
  • 150 MWh of battery containers daily
  • Meeting India’s Power Needs

This massive facility could meet nearly 10% of India’s electricity demand within a decade. It positions Kutch as a national and global powerhouse for solar and storage infrastructure.

Integrated Green Energy Export Hub

Reliance aims to connect its facilities in Jamnagar, Kutch, and Kandla to create a seamless green energy supply chain. This integrated infrastructure will support the production and export of,

  • Green hydrogen
  • Green ammonia
  • Green methanol
  • Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF)

This will establish India as a cost-competitive global hub for green hydrogen and its derivatives.
