As India celebrated its 77th Republic Day on 26 January 2026, the annual parade at Kartavya Path will once again showcase the nation’s unity in diversity. A total of 30 tableaux, representing 17 States/Union Territories and 13 Ministries/Departments/Services, roll downed the ceremonial boulevard, presenting India’s cultural richness, freedom struggle legacy, and progress towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
Why in News?
On Republic Day of India in the Parade 2026 displayed that 30 tableaux 17 from States/UTs and 13 from Ministries/Departments/Services & part of the Republic Day 2026 parade, based on the themes ‘Swatantrata ka Mantra: Vande Mataram’ and ‘Samriddhi ka Mantra: Aatmanirbhar Bharat’.
Broad Theme of Republic Day 2026 Tableaux
- The tableaux this year revolve around two interconnected national themes.
- ‘Swatantrata ka Mantra: Vande Mataram’ commemorates 150 years of the national song Vande Mataram, symbolising India’s freedom struggle and emotional unity.
- ‘Samriddhi ka Mantra: Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ highlights India’s rapid progress driven by self-reliance across sectors such as education, infrastructure, digital governance, defence, and culture.
- Together, the themes blend history, patriotism, development, and cultural diversity into a unified national narrative.
Tableaux from States and Union Territories
- The 17 State and UT tableaux will reflect India’s regional diversity, heritage, and development journeys.
- Assam will showcase Asharikandi’s terracotta craft tradition, while Gujarat focuses on Swadeshi and self-reliance inspired by the freedom movement.
- Kerala highlights Water Metro and 100% digital literacy, and Odisha presents ‘Soil to Silicon’, symbolising innovation rooted in tradition.
- Punjab commemorates the 350th martyrdom year of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, while West Bengal recalls its role in the freedom movement.
- Together, these tableaux celebrate culture, history, and regional pride.
Cultural Heritage and Folk Traditions
- Several tableaux emphasize India’s living cultural traditions. Jammu & Kashmir will depict handicrafts and folk dances, Rajasthan will display Bikaner’s Usta Art, and Nagaland will celebrate the Hornbill Festival, highlighting tourism and self-reliance.
- Maharashtra’s tableau on Ganeshotsav symbolises community-driven self-reliance, while Puducherry presents its craft heritage and Auroville’s vision.
- These displays underline how cultural heritage contributes to identity, livelihood, and inclusive development.
Tableaux from Ministries, Departments and Services
- The 13 tableaux from Ministries and Services reflect governance, security, and development priorities.
- The Department of Military Affairs will present a Tri-Services tableau on Operation Sindoor, showcasing jointness and victory. Air HQs and Naval HQs highlight veterans’ contributions and maritime prosperity.
- The Ministry of Culture focuses on Vande Mataram, while the Ministry of Education showcases the National Education Policy 2020.
- Other key themes include AYUSH healthcare, SVAMITVA scheme, new criminal laws 2023, disaster resilience, power sector growth, and skill development.
