Sachin Tendulkar’s Portrait Unveiled at Lord’s
Sachin Tendulkar’s portrait was unveiled at the MCC Museum in Lord’s, London, on July 10, 2025. The painting was created by well-known British artist Stuart Pearson Wright. The event took place ahead of the third India vs. England Test match, and it was an emotional moment for the cricket legend. This is a special honour for Tendulkar, who has many fond memories of playing in England.
The MCC Museum at Lord’s Cricket Ground, also known as the “Home of Cricket,” welcomed a new addition — a portrait of Sachin Tendulkar, India’s cricket icon. The portrait was painted by Stuart Pearson Wright, a famous British portrait artist. Before the portrait was revealed, Tendulkar rang the traditional bell to start the day’s Test match between India and England.
Tendulkar expressed his happiness and praised the artist for his powerful work. He said, “The portrait speaks to you. Stuart has the gift to express emotions through art.” Many cricket fans and dignitaries were present during the ceremony, making it a memorable event.
Tendulkar shared his deep connection with England. He first visited the country as a teenager in the late 1980s with Kailash Gattani’s Star Cricket Club. He later scored his first Test century at Old Trafford in Manchester.
Recalling his visit to Lord’s in 1988-89, Tendulkar said he once took a photo in front of the Lord’s Pavilion. Now, years later, his portrait is displayed inside the pavilion. “It feels like I’ve come full circle,” he said with a smile.
During the event, Tendulkar also spoke about Shubman Gill, the new Indian captain. He praised Gill for being calm, confident, and thoughtful in his decisions. Tendulkar noted that Gill’s good batting form also helps his leadership.
He added, “When a captain is playing well, it helps him make better decisions. Shubman has handled the team nicely.”
