His passing marks the end of an era in Indian politics, with leaders across the spectrum remembering him for his dignity, calm approach, and deep knowledge of constitutional matters.

Early Life and Political Beginnings

Born on 12 October 1935, Shivraj Patil began his public service journey as the municipal council chief of Latur. His early leadership at the local level paved the way for his long and impactful political career.

He was elected as an MLA in the early 1970s, after which he rose to become one of the most influential leaders from Maharashtra. Patil later represented the Latur Lok Sabha constituency seven times, earning strong support from the region.
