Tamil Poet and Lyricist R. Vairamuthu Conferred with 60th Jnanpith Award

The renowned Tamil poet, lyricist, and writer R. Vairamuthu has been awarded with Jnanpith award in the year 2025, it is the prestigious award of Indian literature. This award was conferred at a function in New Delhi. Now, he is the third Tamil from Tamil Nadu to have received this prestigious award after a gap of 24 years.

The prestigious 60th Jnanpith Prize is given to Dr. R.Vairamuthu by Dr.Karan Singh, the renowned scholar and politician at a special award function in the India’s capital.

The award function was attended by all eminent writers and scholars, academicians, and members of Bharatiya Jnanpith, which shows the significance and value of the award.

The award is given to Vairamuthu for his contribution to Tamil literature and work in the field for many years.

The award comprises,

  • A cash prize of ₹11 Lakh
  • The bronze figure of Goddess Vagdevi.
  • The citation of Vairamuthu’s achievements in literature.

The award signifies the excellently governing literary traditions in different languages of India.

R. Vairamuthu becomes the third Tamil author honored with Jnanpith Prize, one of India’s most prestigious literary awards.
