Tata Steel Commissions India’s Largest Blast Furnace in Kalinganagar
Tata Steel has successfully commissioned India’s largest blast furnace at its Kalinganagar facility in Odisha, marking a significant milestone for the steel sector. With a total investment of Rs 27,000 crore, this Phase II expansion will increase the plant’s capacity from 3 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 8 MTPA. The new facility is designed to meet the growing demands of various industries, including automotive, infrastructure, shipbuilding, defence, and oil and gas. Over the last decade, Odisha has become the largest investment destination for Tata Steel, with a cumulative investment exceeding Rs 100,000 crore.
The newly commissioned blast furnace boasts a volume of 5,870 m³ and incorporates cutting-edge technology aimed at enhancing efficiency and environmental protection. Key features include:

Future expansions at Kalinganagar include a Pellet Plant, Coke Plant, and Cold Rolling Mill, all employing integrated technologies to foster a sustainable environment. The commissioning of this blast furnace not only positions Tata Steel as a leader in the premium value-added market segments but also sets the stage for new records in capacity and efficiency within the industry.
