Telangana High Court Strengthens Bench with Four New Appointments

The Telangana High Court witnessed a significant development on July 31, 2025, with the swearing-in of four new Additional Judges, boosting its working strength to 30 judges. The oath was administered by Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh during a brief yet momentous ceremony. These appointments, approved by the Central Government following recommendations by the Supreme Court Collegium, mark a crucial step towards addressing the long-pending shortage of judges in the state’s highest court.

The Swearing-In Ceremony

The ceremony took place in the Court of the Chief Justice, where Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, who himself had recently taken oath on July 19, 2025, presided over his first formal induction ceremony. The event was attended by senior judges, members of the Bar, and judicial officers who welcomed the new appointments.

The newly inducted judges are,

  • Gouse Meera Mohiuddin
  • Chalapathi Rao Suddala
  • Gadi Praveen Kumar
  • Vakiti Ramakrishna Reddy

Background of the Appointments

The induction comes after the Supreme Court Collegium’s resolution on July 2, 2025, which recommended these four advocates for elevation. The Central Government approved the recommendations on July 28, 2025, clearing the way for their appointment.

The Telangana High Court had been operating with a reduced strength for several months, causing concerns about the timely disposal of cases and mounting pendency. Members of the legal fraternity and judicial officers had repeatedly requested the filling of vacancies to ensure smoother functioning of the judiciary.

Current Strength and Vacancies

With these appointments, the working strength of the Telangana High Court has risen to 30 judges. However, the sanctioned strength stands at 42, meaning that 12 vacancies are still unfilled.

This partial fulfillment is expected to improve the court’s efficiency, though calls remain for further appointments to reach the sanctioned limit and reduce the heavy burden of pending cases.

Significance of the New Appointments

The addition of four new judges is expected to,

  • Enhance judicial capacity and improve the pace of case hearings.
  • Address public grievances over the delays caused by judicial vacancies.
  • Strengthen the judiciary in Telangana, which has been under pressure due to rising litigation.
  • Provide a morale boost to the legal fraternity that has long advocated for filling up the vacant positions.

Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh emphasized during the ceremony the need for a robust judiciary that can uphold justice promptly and fairly.

Looking Ahead

While the appointments are a welcome step, the Telangana High Court still functions with fewer judges than required. To ensure speedy justice and reduce backlog, legal experts stress the need for the remaining vacancies to be filled without delay. The move is also expected to reinforce public confidence in the judiciary and strengthen the legal framework in the state.
